This proposed extension of BSF-1A Allocation will be implemented over the period Jan 1st, to December 31, 2012 and will focus its implementation on working through and supporting provision of essential primary health care services in 6 health facilities in four counties of Unity State namely: Rukona; Pariang; Mayandit and Guit. The 2012 project will expand into Mayom and Abiemnom Counties which were covered by MSI in 2010/11 BSF funding therefore. Therefore the project fills a critical gap in coverage of health services in a transitional state where returns are still ongoing and high influx of Southern Kordofan refugees are sheltered. This gap can neither be met by the State Ministry of Health (SMOH) and the demand for basic services is likely to increase need at a time of possible population movement as a result in security in the operational area.

The direct beneficiaries of 2012 project extension is 271433 individuals comprised of 61831, census population in the 14 payams of six counties and 25127 refugees from southern Kordofan State of North Sudan. The target group to be reached include 2258 children under one year; 14146 children under 5yr; 3874 pregnant mothers; and 61061 of the adult population above 5years.

This project will build on the existing productive collaboration between CARE South Sudan and SMOH, and has been developed with and continues to interface with state level plans of the SMOH with whom CARE has a documented MOU and long standing working relationship.
