The primary objectives for EU Development policy is poverty reduction, sustainable economic and social development, integration into the world economy, the consolidation of democracy and of the rule of law, and respect for human rights. The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are central to EU policy and member states are asked to set targets for financial funding towards development so show their commitments to the MDGs.
